The holiday season is all about connection, generosity, and showing up for one another and this year, our Systems Unlimited community did exactly that with our annual Giving Tree.
Each year beginning the week of Thanksgiving, Giving Trees are placed at our Cedar Rapids and Iowa City locations, decorated with ornaments that represent real gift wishes and needs from the people we provide services to. Each ornament offers the opportunity for someone in the community to make a direct and personal difference for the people we serve.
Those wanting to participate in the Giving Tree select an ornament, purchase the requested item, and return it to Systems Unlimited. From there, our team ensures each gift reaches its intended recipient in time for Christmas.
This year, the need was significantly greater than in years past. More individuals than ever required support, both for meaningful holiday gifts and for essential winter items needed to stay safe and warm. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, we were able to rise to that challenge.
Because of Giving Tree participants, just over 120 individuals had gifts to open on Christmas Day, many of whom may not otherwise have experienced that joy.
In addition to holiday gifts, the Giving Tree Fund plays a vital role in meeting essential winter needs. Through donations to our Giving Tree Fund, Systems Unlimited is able to provide critical items such as winter coats, boots, hats, gloves, and other cold-weather gear.
Those of us who experience Midwest winters knows that these items are not optional, they are essential for safety throughout the colder months.
This year’s increased need made this support more important than ever, and the generosity of our donors helped ensure no one was left facing the cold without proper protection. Any additional funds donated to the Giving Tree helps purchase essential needs for the people we serve throughout the year.
