Mandela Fellows visit Systems

For the past several years, Systems has hosted some of the University of Iowa Mandela Fellows to the agency. On July 12, Carmen Pereira from Mozambique and Kenneth Donkor-Hyiaman from Ghana learned about the agency’s operations, toured ES and did a craft with people we serve in their home.

The Mandela Washington Fellowship is a government program where young leaders (between the ages of 25-35) from Sub-Sahara Africa visit U.S. universities to hone their professional development skills. The Fellows must have established records of promoting innovation that leads to a positive impact on their communities in order to apply. In 2022, the Fellowship will provide 700 outstanding young leaders with this opportunity.

In their home countries, Carmen works with human rights groups and Kenneth works with entrepreneurs. It was an honor to get to meet the two Fellows and hope our agency will be able to spark service ideas for people living with disabilities in their communities.
