Systems Unlimited's 23rd Annual Golf Classic

Fore... a really good cause! The 23rd Annual Golf Classic will happen on May 14, 2012 at the Pleasant Valley Golf Course in Iowa City. The proceeds from this fundraiser go back into the services for the people we serve. Last year over 140 businesses and community leaders were part of the Golf Classic.

Tee off is at 11:00am and golfers will be out on the course until 4:00pm. There will be a reception at 4:30pm which will include hors d'oeuvres, live music, prizes and much needed relaxation. Prizes this year will include gift certificates from area restaurants and golf passes.

The planning committee is working hard to put on a great event this year! 7th Annual Snowflakes & Strings
Wine Gala and Auction

The 7th Annual Snowflakes and Strings Wine tasting event, hosted by Systems Unlimited inc. on February 3rd, was held in the beautiful Dean Ballroom of the downtown Iowa City Sheraton Hotel. This year’s event was a huge success, with around 180 guests and volunteers turning out to support Systems and to enjoy an evening of wine tasting, music and silent auction bidding.

Okoboji Wines, Glazer’s Distributors of Iowa, 7 G Distributing, Ardon Creek Winery, Fleck Sales and Dimitri Wines and Spirits provided a large variety of wines and spirits for sampling.  Coralville Hy-Vee provided their services for coordinating beverage orders.

The City High Quartet and pianist Mark Chorpening kept the music flowing throughout the evening. These musicians donated their time and graced the evening with their incredible talents. The City High Quartet did a stunning stringed- instrument performance.  Everyone enjoyed the classical/jazz piano stylings of Mark Chorpening, who performed throughout the evening.  Both these performances were a wonderful addition to this year’s gala and we are grateful to all of the musicians for their gift of music.

A favorite attraction again this year was the chocolate fountain that was served with a variety of delicious treats for dipping, such as cheese cake bites, pretzel rods, marshmallows and fresh fruit. A variety of elegant and delicious hors d'oeuvres were served by Sheraton wait staff. Several blends of coffee, donated by System’s own Jumpy Monkey, kept the evening perking along.

Over 35 auction items were graciously donated by area businesses and local artists and craftsmen. Some of these included: baskets themed for romantic dinners for two from local restaurants, Minnesota Twins tickets (including seating in exclusive club lounge and dining) provided by Knutson Construction, Boundary Waters Canoe/camping trip to Ely Minnesota provided by Pack Sack, a gift basket and 200 chocolates provided by Kalona Coffee House and a remote controlled helicopter donated by Richard Allen. AW Welt donated a gift basket of Napa Valley wine and dinner at the 126 Restaurant. Our own Shelley Blue and Ty Gehy generously donated items as well.

The Wine Gala planning committee members were Jolene Sorenson, Karey Chase, Adam Hahn (Systems Board member), Carrie Schumacher (Sheraton Hotel), and Cheli Morgan. This committee was responsible for making decisions, obtaining sponsorships and donations, selling tickets and volunteering the night of the event. Thank you wine committee! This was a successful event because of you!

Systems Unlimited Board of Directors did a fabulous job with ticket sales and securing items for the silent auction. We are so fortunate to have their leadership and dedication.

The planning committee thanks all sponsors for this event.  They were KCRG TV “Show You Care”, The Fox 100.7, Sheraton Hotel, University of Iowa Community Credit Union, Greenwood and Crim, P.C., Stanley Consultants/Sycamore Printing, MidWestOne  Bank and Kevin Castle/Principal Insurance. This event would not be possible without our sponsors.

A  very special thanks to the volunteers who donated their time to ensure the evening ran smoothly.  They were: Mary Bartachek, Lora Baughman, Bill Bronemann, Lanna Carroll, Karey Chase, Regina Crooks, Mona Dowiat, Kristen Fiacco, Ty Gehy, Adam Hahn, Melinda Haley, Nikki Kroese, Michelle Lloyd, Katie Miller, Jolene Sorenson, Gary Newell, Jenny O’Brien, Phil O’Brien, Tom Wade and Angela Yancy.
