SUMMARY:Live Your Best Life Sensory Run & 1-Mile Walk
DESCRIPTION:It is official. Systems Unlimited’s “Live Your Best Life 5k” is returning this year even bigger and better! \nJoin us at Terry Trueblood in Iowa City on Sunday\, October 8th for our “Life Your Best Life Sensory Run and 1-Mile” to raise funds to help cover funding gaps and ensure the people we serve live their best life. \nWant to participate\, but you are unavailable on October 8th\, or need more than one day to complete a 5k? No problem! You can do our event virtually and complete the distance over the span of one week. \n  \nWhat is a Sensory Run? \nDo you know that EVERYONE has unique sensory needs and sensory preferences? It is true! \nFor those we serve\, being aware that someone has specific sensory needs can be essential to successful services and leading a fulfilling and happy life. This being such an important part of Systems Unlimited\, we decided to make our event sensory-themed. \nThroughout the 5k and 1-mile routes\, sensory stations will be set up to engage the participant’s senses. Check out our Facebook event page and Race Website to keep up-to-date on the stations as they are decided and finalized.  \nWhat comes with Registration: \n\nAn event T-Shirt\nSensory Pop-It Ball\nA sensory soothie\nA finisher medal (5k participants only)\nKnowing you helped your local non-profit\n\n  \nSensory Stations throughout Run & Walk: \n\nCotton Candy Scented Bubbles: It is just like it sounds! Run through bubbles that have the delightful scent of cotton candy.\nArt Displays: Our very own Art Program created unique and wonderful art cutouts as tall as 5′ that will be set up to view while going through the route.\nLight Display: Go through colorful light tunnels\nFoam Machine\nHanging Ribbons\n\n  \nWhere is the Event: \nRun & Walk Start: Napoleon Ln Parking\, 3801-3949 Napoleon Ln\, Iowa City\, IA 52240 \nRun End & Post Party: Terry Trueblood Lodge\, 579 McCollister Blvd\, Iowa City\, IA 52240 \n  \nHow does this event help Systems Unlimited?  \nA majority of Systems Unlimited’s budget comes from Medicaid Waiver Payments. This money is restricted to the salaries and benefits of staff for the direct care of the people we serve. It cannot be used for operating costs such as wheelchair vehicles\, housing\, and overall programming for the people we serve. This is where fundraising events like the ‘Live Your Best Life’ Sensory Run and 1-Mile come in.
