Sunday December 20, 2008

On a peacefully snowy Sunday afternoon the Steve Smith "Keep On Moving" Memorial Fund once again embarked on a trip filled with entertainment. This trip was organized in an attempt to reach some of the people we serve that enjoy a more laid back relaxing atmosphere, as compared to the fast paced and physically demanding trips of the water park and Adventureland. Once again we all loaded onto the bus, this time embarking to the southeast with our destination of the Circa 21 Dinner Theatre in Rock Island, Illinois. All of the trip goers were filled to the brim with the holiday spirit and had no problem watching the Shrek Chistmas show twice on our way there and back. Though the weather was a little rough leaving Iowa City, after about 15 minutes driving we had clear roads to and from Rock Island. There was just enough snow to bring around the feelings of the holiday we needed to watch a dinner theatre presentation of "It's a Wonderful Life".

When we pulled up we were warmly greeted by our hostess and were soon seated in the nicely remodeled Circa 21 theatre. Though we had a chance to chat on the bus while en route, when we got to our seats we were more easily able to talk and enjoy the company of new friends and old alike. Several of the trip-goers had planned this night specifically and had brought their special someone to attend with them. For those that did not I made sure they sat with people that had similar interests and everyone hit it off right away, as you can see in the pictures. All of our group were very well dressed for the evening and fit in perfectly with the high energy dramatics of the singing waitstaff. Soon we were treated to a very nice meal and sat back to watch the night's entertainment unfold.

Though some of us were not familiar with the story of George Bailey and his trials over the Christmas season, we all thoroughly enjoyed the message and the wonderful singing and theatrics. After a surprise decadent desert during the last intermission several of us were fully enthralled in the production. The curtain fell and then we all gathered our coats back on and headed back into the cold. Though we were not out in it long, we all gladly settled into our warm seats on the bus and had a nice serene trip back to Iowa City as the peaceful snow fell around us. After we arrived back at the main office many of us said goodbye to each other with blessings of a "Merry Christmas" and "see you next trip!"
