For the inaugural Steve Smith “Keep On Moving” Memorial Fund Trip his friends and I came up with the idea of taking a trip to Dubuque. All 65 of us left early Thursday morning, and as everyone else was coming into work we were on our way to a full day of water based fun. We all loaded onto the bus and left shortly after 7 am. On the way up we drove past several farms and enjoyed the scenery while catching up with old friends and meeting new ones on the bus.
Pulling into the Port of Dubuque shortly before 11 am, we excitedly boarded the Miss Dubuque, our cruise ship for the day. Upon boarding we all settled in and enjoyed a relaxing scenic tour of the Mississippi River while eating lunch. Though it was raining on our tour several of us were still able to see a fair amount of wild life. We saw several eagles perched in the trees and a few even spotted some otters playing in the water. After our tour of the Mississippi River we docked back at the Port of Dubuque and said goodbye to the crew of the Miss Dubuque. We all then loaded back onto the bus for a very short drive next door to the Grand Harbor Resort. At the resort we all excitedly changed into swimsuits and rushed into the huge indoor water park they have there.
After about three hours at the water park of running up stairs and careening down the many water slides, we were all very tired. Then we loaded back onto the bus and headed back on the road, stopping for McDonalds on the way out of town. Though the day was very dreary and rained almost the entire time we were there, our spirit for adventure was never drowned out. Being just the first of many trips to come; the most popular question for me of the day was "What are we going to do next?"
