The 2017 Annual Gala and Silent Auction
Each year, Systems Unlimited holds a gala and silent auction. We have three main goals for the event. The first is to raise funds for each of the three divisions at Systems Unlimited. The second is to raise awareness of our agency, its mission and vision, the services we provide, and the people we serve. And, of course, we want our guests to have a special evening with fun events.
This year, we believe we met all three goals. Our profits will benefit the Supported Community Living program by providing funds for home modifications. Employment Systems will use their portion of the money for people we serve to have the fees for activities in the community. Family Systems Therapy and Counseling Services will use their revenue for mental health services for children without adequate mental health insurance.
You could hear about Systems Unlimited and the Gala on the KCRG “Show you Care” commercial, on their mugshot spot, and on their “Everyday Mom’s Corner.” In addition, the Iowa City Public Access station created a public service announcement for the event. We were highlighted as a Z102.9 “Z Cause,” and were interviewed by Scott Schulte. Other listeners heard about our agency and event on KXIC in Iowa City. This year, we also advertised our gala in the Washington and Monticello newspapers. And, of course, we were on facebook, twitter and our SUI website.
The Gala had something for everyone this year! Rod Pierson’s “not so big” band was a hit, playing songs that everyone could enjoy. The dessert auction was a favorite, with over thirty desserts that were auctioned off to guests. A really inspiring and special display was three canvases made by people from Employment Systems. This special art was sold as three individuals pieces of art during the silent auction. What a great contribution by the Employment Systems artists! Food was provided by Jerry and Margie’s Catering and there were four beer and wine vendors to offer samples of their products. The silent auction had offered a wide variety of items to purchase. The mystery bags and the 50/50 raffle were also popular activities.
The SUI Gala and Silent Auction is really a team effort with our many sponsors, our community partners who provided desserts and silent auction donations, the people we serve, our board of directors, and our awesome staff. Congratulations to everyone for displaying great teamwork and dedication to the individuals we serve.
